of grief, Love and hugs

Hey Pal,

You have been on my mind and I just wanted to check in and see how you are doing? 

And, as an ulterior motive, since you have been on my mind, pass along a little wisdom I have learned over the last many years, having experienced the death of some close friends and a husband.  Please accept this with an open mind and store it away for the possibility of future reference.

I don’t know if you have lost anyone close to you before, especially someone like Jim, who I know was one of your closest friends ever.   So, just keep this tucked away in your brain somewhere, so when it happens you will recognize it.  IT is called Grief.  Grief is something you can’t go around, but rather have to go through!   I have done a fair amount of reading about it, not to mention personally experiencing it.  Something might hit you 6 months from now, 12 months from now, 36 months from now or even 5 years from now.  You never know what will trigger it.  It could be a date on the calendar that reminds you of Jim, or a cloud in the sky.  But just when you think, OK – I’ll be fine, this horrible feeling comes over you.  Learn to accept it, embrace it, understand it, feel it and each time it will get a little bit easier and the pain won’t be quite as bad as the last time.  But it is a process you have to go through.  Everyone experiences grief differently, so there is no telling what your reaction might be.  If anyone can be open to it and learn from it, it is you!!

Thanks for listening.  I just wanted to share – if it helps in any way, even 3 years from now, then it was worth it.
