A Course In Miracles

to: A Course in Miracles student/teachers
from: lenny
subject: topics covered last week, homework
date: may 9, 2009

last thursday, we discussed chapter 1, part II: re-Velation, time, and miracles (pp. 7-8).

at the outset, we agreed that any attempt to conceptualize the non-conceptualizable is an exercise in futility, and then we decided to do it anyway.

:)

* we looked at the terms "fear" and "love" as apparent opposites of a Whole continuum.

fear <<<<<->>>>> love

* we noted that The Course tends to lump the term "ego" with fear, and how both of those were a movement away from Source.

* we used the colors "red" and "blue" to help discern some of the initial Course concepts, which appear to contradict, yet... don't (Really).

* we discussed the "symbology" of The Course, and how, as Watson & Perry state, it is "written synphonically and harmonically." ..one theory was that It is written in a complex manner so that we tend to pay more attention while reading. ..The Course is a combination of study and practice.

* we shared ideas about how "time" might not "exist" using the metaphor of a move-ie, where the whole show sits ready (past, present, and future), waiting for someone to turn on the projector. ..we discussed "projection."

* we noted that, according to The Course, ego is but a false sense of separation from Source (of Course, of Course).

* we laughed, as we re-arranged words, and came up with:

  • At-One-ment
  • re-Member-ing
  • re-Lease-ing
  • re-Cognition
  • For-Give
  • move-ie (as in "the Big Play")
  • real vs. Real (as in Spiritual Reality)
* we discussed "the Sonship" as the "One Son" (if you will) of God (if you will). ..the Sonship is the sum total of All, creation.

* we discussed the "Whole Trinity," in terms of:

Source
*............ ^ ............ *
* .................^................. *
* .................... ^..................... *
* .............Whole-ly Spirit .............*
* ...........................v .......................... *
*............................. v............................. *
* ............................. v ............................. *
* .............. the relative world ............... *
*........ fear <<<<<->>>>> love ........ *
* ..................................................... *
* ........................................ *
*......................... *
***

* we discussed the term "sin" and enjoyed the idea that it (originally) was meant as an archery term that means "you missed the mark."

* we discussed "Love" in terms of "absence of ego," and love-ing as a movement away from ego.

* we chuckled about the idea that "sins" are nothing more than an opportunity for someone else to practice the Highest Form of Love, which the Course calls "Forgiveness."

* we noted that For-Give-ness is an inside job, and defined it as a re-Lease of negative, toxic feelings. ..instead of "forgive and forget," we opted for "For-Gift and re-Member."

* we discussed how Forgiveness It-Self becomes unnecessary, when we re-Move judgment, criticism, shame, blame, etc., etc., etc.

in All, we shared ideas. ..we laughed a lot. ..we used language that was supportive, instead of trying to argue over what was "right." ...and that's All-Right.

:)

for the workbook lesson, we discussed lesson 14: "God did not create a meaningless world." ..here (again) the movie metaphor was used to decipher Reality from projection. ..we laughed about how sitcoms, movies and "reality tv" are projections -- like a mirror of Reality.

that which is in the mirror looks real enough, but it's backwards!

we discussed "love, backwards," and deduced that It. Is. All. Love.

:)

home "work" for next thursday:

-read the rest of part II (8-16).
-cover one workbook lesson per day (lessons 15-21), and be prepared to discuss lesson 21.

  1. Oh My God Lenny, what fabulous lesson that sounded like. It would have been great to have been there. I got a lot out of your re-Minding of it. Beautiful!

  2. It was a wild one, John!

    You could just FEEL the High-Level of energy, buzzing through the room.

  3. ACIM, 12-step programs, Advaita Vedanta practices, Guru Yoga, Jainism, etc. etc. are very sweet. However, take care, as they are all still about the story, and are permeated with the idea that there is some separate individual who can "get" enlightenment, or awakening, or whatever we're calling it today. There is nowhere to go. No one to get there. This is it. High levels of energy are fabulous, states of bliss are marvelous, but they are yet more things that seem to arise in the appearance. This is it, whether attending an uplifting ACIM session, having a revelatory breakthrough in deep therapy, or sitting drunk under a bridge. However, there's certainly nothing wrong with any of it! How could there be?

  4. True.

    We talked about the quote "last trap on the path to Enlightenment" (self-righteousness) and agreed from the outset that we would refrain from the "my Spirit is better than your Spirit" trips that people get caught up in.

    We also agreed that a "Course" is something that you GRADUATE from, and we noted the potential problems associated with making ACIM the "Bible."

    ACIM can be a fantastic method of conceptualizing the non-conceptualizable ("Love") -- Be-Cause it does just the opposite: ACIM does a GREAT job of describing the ego, the veil, the dream, the shadow, the false sense of separate-self, or (in a word) fear.

    All of these tools (ACIM, Science of Mind, meditation, prayer, yoga, etc., etc.) are paths that can point us in the direction of Source (whatever THAT is), and then (in my humble lennypinion) it is up to the individual to chart his/her own Course -- which (of Course) s/he cannot NOT.

    :) .. :) .. :) .. :)

    If we are going to choose to play on the earth-school game-board (and ...if we're here, we have), the Peaceful Spiritual paths can literally trans-form the journey.

    Of Course, Every-One is on his own Perfect Path to NowHere, and even miserable paths are Perfectly Okay, if that's the role that someone chooses to Play.

    Soooooooooooo...

    You are a Light, Suzanne, providing us with another glimpse into our own magical, apparent Journey back to the Noplace that we never Really left.

    Thank you (many times over),
    Love, Lenny

  5. Whew. Thank goodness you didn't go right off me and defend ACIM to the hilt! "People" get extremely protective about it. And it's lovely, definitely. I prefer the fag and a cup of expresso school of enlightenment! (That's fag in the English English sense, btw, meaning cigarette.)

  6. Surely I'm feeding you a ripe line here with the espresso.

  7. :) I would've spelled it the same way :)

    Of course, when you ab-use the written word as I do (thoetic license), nobody even knows when you've misspelled something, and by the time they've figured it out, they're five posts behind! Hee, hee.

    Yeah, this Spirit stuff is All Good, clean fun. All I know is that "talking about the Un-scene" and studying about "It," and contemplating It, and writing about It... makes me feel better.

    If something makes you FEEL BETTER (short-term, long-term, without a lot of pain) -- swing for the fence, baby! :)Len

  9. thursday evenings, at the Unity Center for Spiritual Living, charlotte, n.c. 7:00-8:30.

    Unity link at: http://www.unitycenterforspiritualliving.com/ourunitycenter.html

    a key (i think) for any "organized" Spiritual System is to See Beyond the religious tendencies (both pro and con) and to resonate with what "works" for You. :)

    even a "fire and brimstone" speech (yuk!) can serve us, when we (a) consider the biases of the speaker, (b) See Beyond the words, and (c) use it as an abrasive "scrubber" to polish our Inner-Pearl.

    obviously (here) Harmony can man-i-fest as clashes of apparent differentiation.
    :)
    at a Higher Level, differentiation dis-appears into Oneness (example: sunrise-sunset>Sun).

    as quantum physicists battle over superstring theories and T.O.E. (the theory of Everything), maybe... just maybe... It's ALL for Fun, as Spiritual Play.
    :) :) :) :) :)
    have a Goooood day!

  10. oh, noooooooooooooooo!

    suzanne, now i can't get the espresso-expresso thing out of my head, and (as you might imagine), a thoem already exists (december, 2007) that espresses that expression in an expressive manner (fast?).

    you're KILLIN' me, here!
    :)
    stay tuned for "the bipolar, expressed," coming soon.
