forrest gump, down under

this is one of those longer posts... one that i'd ignore (if i were you). .
.
it's mainly just for moi, so i can read it when i'm 77 year's old (that's 11 lives, for those of you who are counting).
.
here goes: tonight, i came back to the chateau franz, from the “blue ice cafĂ©,” and eased into the hostel about half-way through tonight’s movie, which was “forrest gump.” ...approximately 14 "youths" were transfixed on the movie. ..they always seem to be watching american movies.
.
there’s only one thing that i can say about this movie: “incredible.”

.

forrest gump is not only a fantastic love story, but it has a depth that is hard to describe. ..it vividly depicts the ridiculousness of war (and that’s all i’ve got to say about that).

anywaaaaay… i just had to watch the second-half of the movie, and decided to write down (just a few of) the great lines. ..for some of these lines, it feels as if you and i are talking to each other. ..disclaimer: these might not make sense to you, unless you watch the movie again, but here goes:

…………………great lines from the second half of the movie, forrest gump:

the prostitute, to forrest gump, on new year's eve: “don’t you love new years? ..you can start all over. ..everybody gets a second chance.”

---------------------------------------------------------------

forrest, after causing president nixon's resignation (the watergate hotel incident): “and just like that… my service in the united states army was over. ..so i went home.”
.
---------------------------------------------------------------

lt. dan, in regard to forrest's pledge to become a shrimp-boat captain: "gump, the day you're a captain, that's the day i'm an astronaut. ..if you're ever a shrimp-boat captain, i'll be your first mate."

lt. dan, after becoming forrest's first mate: “forrest, i never thanked you for saving my life.”

(then dan jumps into the ocean).

----------------------------------------------------------------------

lt. dan, to God: “you call this a storm? ..i'm right here! ..you want me? ..come and get me!

woo-hoooooooooooooo!"

---------------------------------------------------------------------

when forrest's mom is lying in her death-bed, forrest said: “why are you dyin, momma?”

mom responded: “death is just a part of life. ..it’s my destiny. ..i didn’t know it, but i was destined to be your momma.”

forrest responded: “what’s my destiny, momma?”

momma responded: “you’ve got to figure that out for yourself. ..life is a box of chocolates. ..you never know what you’re gonna get.”

-----------------------------------------------------------------------

from the front porch of his alabama home, forrest said: “at night, when there was nothing to do, i’d always think of jenny.

when he got re-united with jenny, forrest said: "…and then , she was there!

-----------------------------------------------------------------------

when jenny was throwing rocks at the house she grew up in, forrest said: “sometimes, there just aren’t enough rocks.”

------------------------------------------------------------------------

after jenny came home to greenbow, alabama, regarding his time with jenny, forrest said: "it was the happiest time of my life.”

-------------------------------- -------------------------------------------

forrest: “will you marry me, jenny?”

jenny: “you don’t want to marry me, forrest.”

forrest: “i’m not a smart man, but i know what love is.”

------------------------------------------------------------------------

on the bench, in savannah, georgia, after listening to forrest's "running" story...

woman: “ you just... ran!

forrest: “yeah!

-------------------------------------------------------------------------

forrest, in regard to broken dreams: “momma said you’ve got to put the past behind you, before you move on...” “…and i figure that’s what my running was all about.”

-------------------------------------------------------------------------

forrest, in regard to his running: “i ran a long way, for a.long time…”

-------------------------------------------------------------------------

jenny, in regard to her past “issues”: “forrest, i want to apologize for anything i ever did to you, cause i was messed up for a.long time.”

------------------------------- ----------------------------------------

jenny, in regard to her son, “little forrest:”

jenny: “isn’t he beautiful?

forrest: “he’s the most beautiful thing i’ve ever seen.”

----------------------------------------------------------------------------

jenny, after telling forrest that she was sick: “would you marry me, forrest?”

forrest, smiling, says: “okay.”

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------

after listening to forrest talk about his adventures…

jenny: “i wish i could have been there with you.”

forrest: “you were.”

jenny: “i love you.”

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------

after placing a note from little forrest over jenny’s grave,

forrest, holding back tears: “i don’t know if momma is right or if it’s lt. dan. ..i don’t know if we each have a destiny… or if we’re all floating around, accidental like on a breeze… but… maybe it’s both. ..maybe both are happening at the same time.

click here for forrest, at jenny's gravesite

forrest, crying at the gravesite: “…but i miss you, jenny. ..if there’s anything you need, i won’t be far away.”

---------------------------------------------------------------------------

at the end of the movie: when little forrest gets on the bus,

forrest: “i love you!

little forrest: “i love you too, daddy."

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------

lenny's conclusion: "and that's all i've got to say about that."

PS: that line was by "Abbie Hoffman," to Forrest Gump, after Forrest's (silent) speech at the Washington Memorial.

We watch that movie quite often and I can picture every line you said but I could never recite all those words verbatum. You sure know your movies. Even the girls love forest gump even though they can't understand 3/4ths of the significants of all of it. The thing that gets me in the movie is all the references, like Elvis's walk, the smilie t-shirt, shit happens, it never ends.
