* In-Spired by the dinosaur that is the franz josef glacier (franz josef, new zealand).
.
* although new zealand is (arguably) the most eco-conscious nation on this planet, the ozone layer (ironically) is more depleted here than anywhere else on earth..
.
* unless the industrial nations unite and initiate a real plan to stop global warming, this glacier (along with humanity, as we know it) will go the way of the dinosaur..

  2. The depletion of the ozone layer over NZ (and southern Australia) is a negative externality, a euphemism on par with collateral damage. The people causing the problem and reaping the economic benefits of the cause don't count those pesky negative externalities because they don't matter. Unless you're a kiwi.

But the receding glacier is beautiful, and the morain is awesome (in every sense of that overused word), and you were lucky to experience it.

  3. Happy Birthday! You're adventures are a lot of fun to follow. I think you should've followed the tour group (in the last blog) all the way down, saying "whoaaaa" the whole time. You might not have survived the trip down, but not for slipping.

I vow to do something as cool as what you're doing on MY 50th.

    Keep on keepin' on,
    Nicki

  4. Absolutely incredible! Thanks for sharing your thoughts and feelings - and your 50th Birthday with us all. And you know - unlike Judy - I'm glad you didn't slide down that glacier!

    Lots of Love!

  5. Hi, Britta, Claudia, Nicki and Jean!
    .
As you know, all of these pictures can never depict the raw beauty that IS New Zealand.
    .
It just convinces me (more, and more, and more) to get out there and embrace life.
    .
While that which is not "material" may be Most Important, it's also a good idea to get out on this earthly chessboard and Play!

    Love to All, :)
