blue ice, part 2

so...

how do you decide whether (or not) to climb up on that glacier, even though you're wearing sneakers instead of glacier-boots? ..everyone up on that thing is with a group, geared-out, and being guided by an expert.
here's how you decide: you say to yourself "i'm 50, today! ..i might never see a glacier again!" (...and then you climb). ..to me, it was a no-brainer.
.
note: the experience is unspeakably awesome. ..i feel as if i'm taking pictures of a dinosaur, as it heads toward extinction. ..can we save these treasures? ..can we save ourselves?
.
aaaaaanyway...
.
at some point, you begin to think that maybe this wasn't such a great idea. ..this happens whenever you look back and down (as seen below):

. ...but you want to get a little closer to that blue ice.
.
below: part of the path (uh, oh, maybe it's time to turn around).
.
below: just a couple of looks "up"

...blue ice:.

finally, you decide that it's simply too dangerous. ..it's too steep, it's too slippery, and there's nothing between you and a long, long slide

.

.........................................(below, note the sneaker, in relation to the slope)... yikes!!!!
editor's note: i was holding on to a rope, so it wasn't that bad.

at one point, one of the guided groups was going back down (ahead of me) and the group-guide came back up (to where i was) and he actually said: "i'd like to say this politely, mate, but can you stay up here until my group gets down the slope? ..if you slip and fall down the steeps, you might take some of my group down with you."
.
my response: "no problem, bro. ..i turned 50 today, and i just couldn't stay at the bottom. ..i had to climb!"
.
he understood, and he said "good on ya, mate!"
.
.
.
.
.
.
.
he then led his group down the slope.

..
they smiled when i got down. ..they told me to have a good celebration, tonight, at the pub.
.
.
.
.
and that's the end of my blue ice tale...
.
...unless tonight's trip to the blue ice cafe inspires a "blue ice, part 3."

For those of you who've gotten there before me, and for those who will hit the big "five-ohh" in the future...

    ...it is GREAT!!
    .
Let's make sure to live every, single second together as if it is our first -- and our last.
    .
Let's see each other as brand new, every day, and let's treat each other as if it was our last moment on earth together!
    .
The thing that makes me smile is that I've been lucky to have those moments (already) with YOU!
    .
    Can we share more??
    .
    Love,
    Len
